✔️ Be Consistent Children thrive off consiste ✔️ Be Consistent Children thrive off consistency, so it is important that there are rules and boundaries mutually agreed upon between the caregiver and the parents of the household. If consistency is not established, then you run the risk of confusing the child and prolonging the unwanted behavior. ✔️ Stay Calm It’s easy for negative emotions to take over in challenging situations, but if both you and your charge are frustrated it could take longer to resolve the situation. We suggest taking three long, deep breaths before reacting and then calmly talking through the situation at hand. ✔️ Communicate Encourage your charge to express their feelings in a safe and effective way. Be sure to validate their feelings as you both work on coming up with the best way to resolve the matter or conflict at hand. ✔️ Show Affection There's nothing like a warm hug or snuggle to help your charge calm down. Once their feelings are regulated, the child sees that they have the power to control their own emotions. They may even use this as a coping mechanism in the future. Showing affection not only hones their own problem-solving skills but also makes them feel safe and builds their trust in you as their caregiver! ✔️ Don't Give Up! Changes to behavior can take a lot of time and plenty of patience. Seek progress, not perfection. Be sure to keep an open line of communication between you and your nanny family.
